Farmers Market at Ix, Mar 16, 2024

Hello Local Market Fans,

It’s a very busy time in Market Management. The warming weather brings vendors out like groundhogs coming out of their holes! It brings to the the forefront the challenge of finding enough space to support the vendors and customers. We need vendor and parking space. Market Central is looking for a second spot for a market this summer. We’ve tried the Ix Art Park for 4 years, but a Thursday evening market has not “taken” at the Ix Art Park. It is simply too hot and vulnerable to summer storms for both vendors and customers. If the community has any ideas, feel free to weigh in.

This week we celebrate Pi with Pie. It’s a fun day to acknowledge math with pies! Check our Facebook post to see who makes pies at the market. Unfortunately, Family Ties and Pies is taking the week off, but there are other kinds of pies. Pi Day

Market Hours of Operation will change on April 6. You will now be able to shop from 8:00 am to 12:00 before it gets too hot.

Help us keep our environmental footprint to a minimum. Most vendors use compostable materials which cost more. Put them in the compost stations, along with food scraps, napkins and paper bags. Aluminum foil, and non-compostable plastic goes in the landfill bag. Cans and bottles go in the recycling. We can do this!

Are you or someone you know interested in working at the farmers market? We have several vendors looking for workers to help at the market, or in some cases, work at their farms or places of production. Little Hat Creek Farm and Bakery, Fermented Fire Hot Sauce, are currently looking for workers. Contact Market Central for more information. The Little Hat Creek job is posted on the Market Central facebook page.

Come on down to the market this week to welcome spring. The farms are coming back, with Orion Family Farm joining this week. There are no worries about late weather cancellations this week.

Use SNAP to purchase eligible food and receive Virginia Fresh Match to purchase fruits, vegetables and food-producing plants and seeds.

See you at the market!
